1. How do you write your novels ?

Dogwood Season is the only book I've written so far.   I enjoy reading novels  about serial killers, so I decided my story would include a serial killer.  As thoughts entered my mind, I would jot them down.  Later, I added to the little thoughts, expanding them in several different directions.  When the thoughts appeared to have some potential, I wrote an outline of how I thought the story should progress.  Of course, I had to add, delete, and change it quite a few times as I wrote the story.   Three years later, I was done!

2. Do you have suggestions for getting published?

I suggest you read three books, "Novel & Short Story Writer's Market", The Complete Idiot's Guide to Getting Published", and "The Marshall Plan for Getting Your Novel Published".  The first book identifies the publishers and agents.  That's where I found Publish America.  The other two books offer many ideas, show you common rookie mistakes, and shows you how to prepare a professional looking manuscript for submission.  In addition, read "Get That Novel Written!" for some inspiration to continue to finish your book.  Another great resource for those of us who are not Literary  Scholars, is the "Flip Dictionary".  It's similar to a Thesaurus but way better.

3. Where can I purchase Dogwood Season?

Dogwood Season is available at all book stores and online stores.  It can also be purchased from the publisher, www.publishamerica.com/shopping/index.htm  and my website  michaelaltieriauthor.com.  From my website, you have the  option  to have your book  personalized and autographed absolutely free, if you're into that sort of thing.  It's a great gift idea for the person who has everything (except my book)!  You'll also receive a free gift.

7. How long did it take to write Dogwood Season?

It took me about three years from start to finish, because I only write in my spare time.  It took about eighteen months to write and complete the second draft.  Then I put it away for six months because I started to feel like I was wasting my time.  With encouragement from my wife, I started to edit and rewrite, completing draft number three.  Then there's the tweaking.  Don't get me started about the tweaking!!!
